To The Lost Soul Making Sense Out of Nothing

Writer, Fiifi Khoruz

And would you be alarmed if everything went dark at a point? Not literally dark but the point where you don’t need flash-on to get the picture. Sometimes, you reach a point in your life where you know this is your lowest ever. It may vary from finance issues to broken hearts. Pick your frame; we all can’t have the same problems.

Well, for most people, that is their breaking point. The point where they wish the earth could open up and swallow them because they do not see how possibly they can get back up from such a fall. I am not here to show you the process for getting back up on your feet. I’m not being mean. Honestly, I just don’t know the steps for rebounding from a really bad situation. I am just here to remind you of two things:

No condition is permanent.

You most probably have heard this simple sentence a time too many, but did you ever make something of it? Have you thought about it before? You know, just like you sit and think about ways to make it up to your crush when you wrong them? Yeah, you should pay attention to these things also. I wish I could go back in time with you. Name all the greats and how things have always not been rosy. Speaking of ‘rosy’, how did that character in Devious Maids become a Private Investigator in Season 4?

The writers of the show really have some tricks up their sleeves. I hope one of them is to renew for a fifth and sixth season and please keep the Powell couple alive and relevant in the series. They define humor, especially for me. Sorry for veering off course; when I start talking about my favorite TV shows, I can’t seem to stop. But then again, notice how we were talking about desperate moments in life and then I switched to talking about a TV show?

That tells how absolutely no condition is permanent. You can’t possibly stay at one level your whole life. So let’s get back to naming the greats in history. The only name that comes to my mind is Steve Jobs. This is really sad for me because I have wanted an Apple product since 2011 but I still don’t own any.

Anyway, that man is... was a phenomenon. ‘Is’ seems appropriate here because the man’s ideas and products still linger on long after his unfortunate passing away. Steve jobs changed the world! I am sorry if you don’t feel the same way because you are stuck on Android and Microsoft products. All nice and well, but know that Jobs was the man. Now relating this to no condition being permanent, you should be reminded again that he was kicked out of the company he founded. [I need a crash course in Business Administration and Law to know how something like that could happen.] But it happened.

This is a man that dropped out of college to start a company. That means that at that point, his whole life was about that hustle. Then he got kicked out...

Let that sink in while I take a moment to text my crush who uses an iPhone by the way.

...So through a series of events which included Jobs founding another company, NeXT, he returned to Apple in 1997, a whooping 12 years after being forced out. Long story short, just know that no condition is permanent. As I said early on, I am not here to tell you how to rebound from a bad situation. I am just here to remind you that no condition is permanent and also...

Pick yourself up.

That sounds like a really harsh thing to say to someone who has just suffered a major setback. Pardon me but, that’s the truth you are here for. You don’t need to stay down when you fall. Of course that’s your choice to make. I’m just reminding you to do so, remember? I really wish I could talk about another person but maybe later. Read point one again – when Apple forced Steve Jobs out, he didn’t go home and say, “nah, I’m not trying anymore.” He founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in state-of-the-art computers for higher education and business markets. Jobs picked himself up.

You might not like Steve Jobs because you don’t like Apple products, but that’s not the point here. [You are probably too broke to buy an iPhone, admit it.] Thing is, when you find yourself at the lowest point in life, you need to take a deep breath and do what all the greats did. They got back up. Funny thing is, you already knew this. You just needed to be reminded again. I know a man who dated a fine lady for 7 years. They made plans to marry and have the world’s finest babies. You know, those things that you people in love mutter to one another. I can’t relate because I’m single, and at the time I dated, we were both too young to whisper such things.

Oh! how I thought I loved her. She left me for a guy who fiddled with microphones in the hopes of becoming the best rapper since D-Black. Anyway, the man that dated the fine girl for 7 years had the shock of his life when… when the girl died. You thought she left him for another guy. Not all girls are selfish please. This one died. The man was devastated. Neighbors found him hanging from the ceiling of his room, apparently in an attempt to end his life. He failed.

When he regained his strength, he went in to see a counsellor. That was when he learned two valuable things: no condition is permanent; pick yourself up. He had a fresh look at life and proceeded to live again. (Most of you are alive but you are not living). Believe me, the man found another lady. They got married after a brief courtship. He now looks happier than me (and I am supposed to be the happiest man alive.. smh).

So it’s really simple. To you these may not be rules to live by. But they are definitely rules to remember. You already knew them, you just needed to be reminded. Live your life knowing that no condition is permanent. Anything can happen to you at any time. Just don’t be very surprised if you fall. Just smile.. okay not smile, that fall might be really hard. My bad. But just know that such things are bound to happen and that you SHOULD always pick yourself up.

PS: Can I get an iPhone and/or a Macbook, please? Thank you.

Adu Amani- Ambition, Opportunities, and Taking Chances.

"I don't have challenges because I see them as experiences and opportunities to learn from", this seems to be the daily mantra of Vera Adu Amaning of Adu Amani Klodin. She is an outstanding woman entrepreneur doing great things with her talent, career and personality which I believe young people and aspiring entrepreneurs can learn from.

Career Path

The brand Adu Amani Klodin was inspired while helping with a friend who was into fashion accessories. Their first attempt was called VAAD Style, also a fashion brand. VAAD failed due to difficulty in reaching a ready market,  and the unavailability of her partner and friend. They lost a lot of deals with customers in the course making closing down the last option.

Vera later sought for a job at a Printing Press. Fortunately, she had a background in printing so she had little problem securing a job. While doing this work, a colleague enquired from her where to get hand made shoes to buy from. Vera then used the opportunity to show her colleagues some pictures of her old creations from VAAD. Her very impressed friends encouraged her to pursue the fashion vision and build a business from it. After seeking permission from her former partner, she started Adu Amani Klodin which is gradually gaining grounds on both the local and international markets.

Adu Amani Klodin can be found online at www.aduamani.com where shoes, slippers, bags, belts and many more fashion accessories, mostly handmade, can be shopped.

Hobbies and Fun times

Vera is a lover of creativity. She prefers to spend quality time creating new innovations and better styles for her brand. Hanging out and attending events also gets her spiced up for new energy and motivation. Cooking and trying her hands on new things are other activities that lighten her up. However, the greatest moments of joy for her comes with just being alone at home, soaked in her own world and thoughts. Most of these fun moments have catapulted the young woman to unimaginable fame. Her Chalewote Street Art Festival moments for instance are remarkable times which have gained her some popularity in the social media circles. It has also won her the "Adomi Bridge" title, emanating from a hairstyle she wore to the event, and this has been trending online since last year.

Social media

Adu Amani, as she is mostly known on Facebook, can be described as a social media freak. Her daily posts online can be described as a mixture of education, information and entertainment. She also has accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, where she shares her works and fun times with her followers. Her love for social media allows her to turn her fun moments into a wonderful learning experience and avenues of opportunities for herself and her followers. Vera employs exceptional digital marketing strategies that she uses to promote her brand and other Ghanaian brands. She takes the chance to inspire, educate, and accept challenges through her social media platforms. Not a wonder that she clocked a deal with Woodin Fashion through her social media exploration.

Woodin Moments

Earlier this year, she had the chance to work with Woodin on their Wednesday Style Session, which features Fashion designers who teach customers simple fashion tips that they can practise at home. Speaking to her on how she got such an opportunity to work with a big fashion brand as Woodin, this was what she had to say:

"I must admit that it was a favor from God. I had always wanted to work with Woodin because I love their fabrics and I use them to design the male loafers that I work on. Some of their designs look more like leather making it easier for us to work on them", she confessed.

Excited about sharing the whole experience, she continued, "Five years ago, I visited their outlet in Osu to enquire on how I can work with them or at least sell in their shop, but I was disappointed when my efforts proved futile. Perhaps, I didn't try hard enough but i kept posting my designs on their timeline. Last year,  they updated a post on their Facebook page asking their fans to choose someone as their ambassador from a list of celebrities they had outlined. I commented with  my name, choosing myself as an ambassador. This seemed like a silly approach but it turned out positive. The next day, I received an appointment letter from Woodin asking to work with me on their DIY(Do it Yourself) Wednesday project."

To her, this was a dream come true, and a first step to becoming part of the Woodin family. "I was really excited about the opportunity of having Woodin on my portfolio/CV after 5 years so much that the package they offered really didn't matter to me", the fashion entrepreneur concluded.

Words of Advice

It is okay to fail, she told me, adding that, "I start some creations afresh all the time because I find out that I have made mistakes on them". According to her, certain things we wish for will not come out as expected, however we must not see them as challenges but rather a chance to start all over again. This time, doing things the better way.

Vera advices young people by leaving them with these words, "Spend your time wisely. Learn a skill, a trade, or study a course. Stop visiting places like the Accra and West Hills Mall just to take pictures. All these things do not add value to your lives". She cautions everyone to build on themselves and carefully nurture their personality in order to be relevant in society.

Future Plans

She hopes to use her brand and its resources to fund and sponsor many worthy causes in society in the years to come. She also plans on training and educating young women, especially in rural areas, with requisite skills and business ideas so that they can live meaningful lives in their societies.

In ten years, Vera sees herself to have gained a degree, married, and with children. By then, her fashion brand would have also gained much solid grounds in the fashion and business industries.

My Washroom Diaries.

The washroom has been said to be one of the places one can find peace and relaxation in the house. It could be a place to hide away from the entire household, and also a place to let yourself easily go. By simply sitting on the "pot", I easily get carried away in my own world. So here I am sharing with you a few of my moments in the washroom. I hope you relate with my experiences as we embark on this jolly ride.

I wish I could really tell you how I feel when I enter the rest room; home or public. It's always a relieving feeling because often it comes with releasing oneself from a sort of discomfort---you know? Except sometimes the public ones take you way back into wishing life was a bit more fair. I mean why are some public washrooms so disgusting? It sort of makes you wanna just pee on yourself instead.

As I'm writing this piece, I'm seated right in front of my washroom(I was inside but it felt small so I came out so that I could savour the whole memories of it). This is a place where I find a lot of inspiration. I wish I could call it something like my "throneroom". Sitting on the pot indeed makes me feel like a princess sitting on her throne and in charge of everything around her.

I sometimes take my tea there and my Mp3 player too... And of course my phone. These make me feel on top of the world in there so much that I totally forget where I am. Infact, sometimes I'm tempted to take my blanket and pillow there as well only that I get scared of being tagged crazy. Come to think of it, it's called a 'rest room' so who cares?

There was this time I felt so down, not wanting to talk to anyone. I locked myself in the washroom for close to 3 hours. I talked to myself the entire time, ignoring all the knocks and calls by my family from outside. It wasn't new to them anyway. I talked about my future, my relationships, and about several questions running through my mind. I was glad I felt a bit relieved after the whole process.

I really love to unwind from all the negativity that happens around me and I'm glad I mostly find my washroom useful in that regard.

It's also a place where I find writing inspiration. I've written several pieces, poems, stories, memories from there. I've met with myself there, basically. It is a place which has taught me patience and calmness. True. Like whenever I'm on the verge of peeing, the washroom has being able to teach me endurance and patience by allowing me the courage to gradually take off my underwear with care before finally landing on the seat to ease myself. How else can one learn patience if not in this manner? I bet you all can relate.

Each day, my washroom shows me the essence of discipline. I'm never comfortable seeing my pot stained therefore I'm left with no choice than to clean it every morning. Shame to every person who has not yet learnt to flush their waste after every washroom visit. That's the basic step to discipline and if you're not yet used to it you better start.

Letting go is one of the things most people haven't gotten a hold of yet. But I have news for you...

We all let go of the toxic in our bodies almost everyday; in the washroom. So you see, this should tell you that whatever toxic situation, friend, environment, that you find yourself in is not worth keeping. Let the washroom experience teach you the essence of letting go so you can feel at ease.

So there it is. Unwind, flush, let go, and enjoy every moment of your life. I'm sure by now you've decided which place is the favorite room of all in your house.

Send My Letter To Your New Lover

To you my old "gig" and your new love,

Your new lover will definitely ask about your past relationship and your reply will be what I did wrong and what you did right to stop my unusual behavior. New love (NL from henceforth) will nod at all you say and answer, "I believe you". Now, I hope they come  across this letter and decide for themselves what it is like to date someone of your calibre. Of all the things in the world, people are the most difficult to deal with. You know why? 'Cos people change.

You are truly an amazing person, but your personality needs a little fixture. You came to me with all the promises you are promising NL and yet you failed. I took time to watch you grow and thought we would outgrow some of our mismatches and yet all you gave me were lots of punches to run away from.

I must admit that loving you was bitter-sweet because you were one hell-of-an-addiction I could not outrightly stop messing around in my head with. Being with you had its own lessons that I am grateful for learning because without it I thought life was all about winning and never loosing. Your NL must know that to win you over and stay in that spot is not an easy task.Day in day out, I discovered a new trait in you. Perhaps, those traits were ones you never knew about yourself either.

NL, please deal well with this lover because wild creatures need to be handled with extra care and understanding. NL, I also must tell you this, it's our little secret; Never stop saying "I love you". Once you stop, the power of your love will begin to die. Doubt yourself, doubt your love, but never doubt this person I left for you to have the chance to meet. Yes, there may be others, but until you get to meet them believe in what you own.

Today, I am out here wishing I knew all the right things that could have been done to keep this sweet union you are enjoying with someone else. You, NL, must know that I am not a monster at all. It is just something you were told just to make you feel good about yourself. Deep within, I know you love all of my imperfections and wished they were your strengths.

NL, do you and not anyone else(not even me) in order to keep your love intact. That day you stop being you, same day things will fall out of place. You should know that you are with a terrible lover who desires the qualities they lack in themselves from another person. Is there a perfect lover anyway?

Align yourself with what you feel deep within. If it's good you're good to go, if it's ugly face it. Face this newness of love with a big deep heart. Where the heart leads you, go there. Be happy NL because I lost something so you could find it and be happy. Whenever you feel like giving up remember someone else did and lost it all, and that's me. All the same, if you happen to be the second version of me, give it up anyway. When you do, move on and go look for who you think is your true love. I may not have all the experience to tell you what to do with your love life but I hope this one guides you along the way. I'm that sweet (winks).

NL obey. Obedience is the beginning of success. Obey my words and obey the love you have. And when we finally get to meet, I hope to give you a big hug, congratulating you for tackling and finishing a task that I wasn't able to accomplish.

Best of luck, NL.
With love from your lover's ex.

Dear GIJ Guys, From Me To You.

Holla, Charlie how be?

As school is about resuming, thought it wise to let you know a few things your girl(s) want to see a change in. School is where we all come to socialise and familiarise with one another, so I beg no hard feelings as I pour out my heart. Apparently, a few of you do not fall into the category of what I'm about sharing, however, majority do. I hope you hear me out and take my words in good fate. Perhaps, you could give me a high-five when we meet around campus 'cos I'm sure I'm saving you a lot of stress having to find these out yourself.

First of all, I believe a long vacation may have brought you to the realisation that sharing is indeed caring. It is by no mistake that this saying was brought up. Infact, how on earth can a guy be so chisel? Jeez! Let's be frank, you guys are too chisel. You rather want the ladies to always do you the favors instead (what is that?). That, my brothers, is so not fine at all. Common coke, transportation fare, and even pure water, you don't want to give a girl. I beg guys, this semester we wanna see a change. A Legon girl doesn't suffer this at all. If you happen to meet their guys anywhere kindly learn a thing or two from them. Pamper us else don't bother us with unnecessary chats and calls.

Photo credit: kuulpeeps.com (10 fashionistas in GIJ)

My next concern is your dressing. Hehe. My friends and I kinda gossip about that a lot. Ladies are generally known for being concerned about their general outlook. It is sad I can't say same about my GIJ paddies. Some coat and shudders guys will wear to school can scare. Look, we ladies like fine things ooo. I beg, you guys should macho up. And for those "cool" fashionista guys, all I can say is we 'dig' you. At least, the "abongo"  ones can learn a thing or two from you people.

Is it a trend or what? Every guy wears long sleeves and office attire to school. If it's not compulsory it should stop or at least mellow out. What happened to all the cool shorts, sneakers, and blazers that guys put on? Sometimes you make the ladies feel as though we were sitting in class with our uncles and daddies and it's not even funny. A friend who was visiting me on campus for the first time asked me if the guys in my school were all married. I laughed and asked why. She replied that they dress as though they were, so as to scare single ladies off. This made both of us laugh out loud.

Please I understand that you are students and as such cannot live outside of your means or whatever. I'm just saying act a bit cool and gentlemanly. What even beats my mind is a guy who in this century behaves someway towards women. As you are in a communication school, a lot of women will be around you. Please, treat them right. You do not want to be the reason why a lady will carry wrong perceptions about men with her all her life. Most of you are good but are corrupted along the line. Please don't be corrupt okay, the world already is.

Most of you need to learn how to talk politely. Stop living in the era where they say a woman must be submissive to a man, as if submissive isn't relative. You cannot expect to talk 'trash' to an educated woman and expect her to look back at you voiceless. Women these days have been taught to think and act for themselves. Treat her right and you have no problem. I most often hear the guys say that the ladies do not respect and so they will have nothing to do with them. Hello! You better learn how to relate with women from school. There may be a lot of answers you will find out about us by just been nice to us. Who knows? You might find your future wife from there. Women are not that complicated, you just need to have enough balls and mastery to deal with them. Begin dealing fairly towards women at this stage of your life. You have all the access to all the variety of women, and even your male counterparts, to learn how to deal with people in general. Fix your anti-social, or lemme say "anti-women" character from this semester on. The sooner you do, the better for you.

Stop calling girls names, it's not a gentleman thing. Stop being selfish over handouts. Stop gossiping about ladies even in their presence. Stop fighting with ladies at the canteen over who came first and who did not. It's okay to let a lady buy her food first, and even nicer to pay for her food after she is done ordering(oh yes! Lol). Stop threatening them because they would not date you but date someone instead when all you do is watch them walk from school to Police Headquarters everyday (GIJ girls are suffering, no guy to even give us a lift or board a taxi for us. Haha.). Maybe if you guys align yourself properly, the school will be a better place. After all, it's a man's world, isn't it?

This semester and the ones to follow, dress well, speak well, behave well. And to those of you who don't bath before coming to school, we know you all. One of these days we shall expose you like Holy Spirit exposing evil spirits at a church gathering.

This is my small "letter of concern" to my lovely GIJ guys. I hope you recieve it in peace and buy me bread and egg plus coke(I love coca-cola) when you see me on campus. Otherwise, contact me via comment or email with your reply. I'm patiently waiting.

Are You Making History?

This question does not only render a person confused, it also pushes you into deep thought. It brings you to a point where you have to dig deep within yourself to find meaning for the life you are currently living. What can people read about you if you are to die today? Living your today like it's all you've got puts you in an alert mood. Are you making history?

Making history goes beyond being a celebrity or public figure. Seemingly small gestures and initiatives can catapult anyone into the history-making arena. Personally, I used to be distraught about never finding myself doing anything with my gift of writing. My friends and colleagues will consistently force me to use it to the best of my ability. I was always looking for acceptance before I could set out to do anything I really wanted to do. Which was not supposed to be the case.

Today, you are reading this piece not because I'm an excellent writer. But like Laurel Thatcher said, I am not waiting to be well polished or perfect before I start making an impact. In the same way, I believe that every person has a calling to do something in the places that they find themselves. What history are you making in your family, relationships, church, school, workplace or society? It's the little efforts we make that churn us into  becoming big personalities.

You know very well that you have something to offer to the world. There is nothing wrong being a teacher in that primary school, neither is there anything wrong being that good example among your friends and family. Set the pace, do something extraordinarily different from the rest of the people around you. People will eventually notice a difference in you and will begin to want some of your charm and expertise.

Whatever you thought of yourself not being able to do, try and do them. That's the beginning of how people make history. I prefer to describe it as "setting or breaking the records straight". At the start, you may look stupid in the eyes of people. But pressing on towards the goal makes all the difference. All the great people we have ever heard or read about were those who at a point in their lives decided to break some rules. When I look at present day game-changers like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Serena Williams, Mark Zuckerberg, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, Chief Justice Georgina Woode, and many others, all I see is history makers. These people had to force themselves to come out of the box that society had placed them in.

Whatever you find passion for, do it with all your might. Let no one talk you into changing your focus when you are so sure that that's what makes you feel fulfilled. Making history involves doing what you love and doing it so well that you get noticed for it. I love writing and teaching so I try as much as possible to channel them through my blog and social media posts. I do this with the hope that someone out there will find my writings helpful and get answers that they may need to be able to do something meaningful with their lives.

I hope that after reading this you will go back to your first love; that thing that makes you who you truly want to be. Do you love taking care of others, cooking good meals, making people laugh, writing, painting, creating new things, or singing? How do you intend to use these gifts to touch lives and make a difference around you? Think about it and start acting fast. There isn't enough time to waste around doing nothing at all.

Always remember that your focus in life is your personal gift and that your journey will be tough. The good news is that you have all the strength, wisdom, resources, strategies, power and determination to make it through anything that you set your heart to do. Go out there and make history!

You Don't Need Bigger Hips, Boobs or Muscles To Survive!

Often times,  I get so overwhelmed when young ladies and gentlemen try so hard to keep their bodies in shape without caring about their mental capacity. What's the use of a beautiful body when you cannot make smart decisions for yourself? There's only one sure way that I can approve is good for building sharp mental skills and reasoning. Great men of old and present have all used this formula to build their capacity for success. Without it, you will always be led or misled by others. With it, you don't need to struggle looking good just to impress. It holds all the master secrets that one needs to do well in life.

I have observed closely at how many people are not taking charge of their lives because they leave everything in the hands of people who possess uncommon knowledge. These "special" people who possess the knowledge that not everyone has did not just get it overnight. It took years of constantly investing into their brain banks. They hardly slept at night. They dug deep into the gold mines of knowledge acquisition. Nobody ever has it easy, but to remain at the top is worth paying the price for.

Did you notice that getting in shape and maintaining the right figure isn't an easy task in itself? Yes, the same with acquiring knowledge. The only difference is that one puts you at a greater advantage in life than the other. The body will grow weak in the long run. However, your ideas, knowledge and wisdom can't depreciate. It stores up and grows with you as you climb the ladder of life.

What am I driving at? What could be more important than big boobs, hips, and muscles? What puts you in the limelight before all others? Having big brains!

Now, you cannot be intelligent overnight as I mentioned earlier. It takes consistent reading and searching for knowledge to get there. People who do not read are those who hardly lead. It's that simple. Commit to reading and searching for great secrets in every written piece that you come across. As senseless or sensible as it may seem, the letters in a written piece have a way of putting your mind in search for greater knowledge.

Reading keeps you smart and alert on the things going on around you. You also get to be among the first to acquire knowledge on a particular subject matter.
Choose reading and mental exercise to physical outlook. Make sure that you commit much energy into reading good books and articles as you will commit to your physical wellbeing. Reading will broaden your mind, show you the way, and attract great people and opportunities into your life. You should try it.

Whenever you think of getting that new hip pad, makeup, or exercise kits, be sure to add a book to the list. Stop borrowing books and build a library for yourself. This is one of the marks of a truly visionary person. Your friends, family, children and great grand children will benefit from the books that you read. They will also be glad to read from your library. That's one true legacy you could ever leave for those you care about.

Congrats! You just finished reading one great piece. Hope you practice what you learnt.

Let's vote. How many hands for hips and muscles, and how many hands for smart brains?

7 Myths About Journalism People Need To Get Straight

Journalism has come to stay and is invariably the fourth arm of government aside the legislature, executive and, judiciary. Basically, it is referred to as the Fourth estate of the realm. Journalists are one of the highly successful and respected professionals around the world. Unfortunately, there has been certain untruths surrounding the profession which I believe must be clarified. In some parts of the world, the underdeveloped nations to be specific, Journalism has over a period of time being dragged in the mud. Many who find themselves in the profession are either untrained or lack the basic knowledge of the ethics of the profession. When practised right, Journalism can be the source of national growth and development for any nation and it's citizens. Here's what you need to know about the profession.

Fame and Glam

First of all, Journalism isn't all about becoming famous. Never get it twisted. Of course,  the fame comes with being good and exceptional at what you do. The people you see on your television are there for a specific reason; to entertain, inform, and educate us. Some journalists are investigators who expose rot in society, and do not necessarily need to be in the spotlight due to the nature of their work. As a brand or professional, looking good is part of the rules of engagement so that doesn't mean most journalists are only in for the glam. There's more to this lovable profession.

Less Difficult Profession

I hear a lot of people give remarks that seem to demean the hard work of journalists and student journalists. People go as far to say that why study Journalism when you just need a camera, laptop, and a channel to be in the game. Okay, why study business when you just need a shop where you get to count all the money in the world? It's funny for anybody to even think this way. Again, journalists go to various processes to get their work ready to be broadcast through whichever medium. In today's competitive world, unskilled and untrained media personnel cannot be overlooked. Effective trained media personnel not only bring accountability but also stops bad news from being spread. Getting real facts from credible sources is enough headache which requires smart professionals who have undergone some form of training in a media or Journalism school.

Low Income or Salary

Whenever I hear people say media men are the least paid, I only laugh. A colleague almost quit Journalism school because she had been told she would not make enough ends meet from the profession. Today, although she is still in school, she makes enough to support herself and she enjoys what she does. Journalists are one of the well paid and highly demanded people in the professional circles. It is easy to find one media person working for multiple institutions and making money from all those areas. Many journalists are working in both radio and television spaces which means they will be paid in both places, and vice versa. The beginning might be difficult, but persistence pays a lot.

Journalists are gossips

It is of no doubt that various blogs, newspapers, websites, television, and radio stations have categories in which they discuss hot gossips. However, Journalism has a broader sense which cannot be limited to celebrity news and gossips. Journalism involves sharing information that is in the interest of the public for purposes of education and enlightenment. Information broadcasted are true facts that are evidence based. Well trained media practitioners do not have any right to spread false news about people without going unpunished for defamation charges. Also, celebrity news sells and that is why most news about celebrities are regularly circulated. Be reminded that journalists do not gossip but see to it that things are done right; that good deeds are applauded and the bad are punished.

Journalists lack morals and ethics

If there is any profession that lacks ethics, you can count Journalism out. It is bound by strong code of ethics under the Constitution. However, some unscrupulous people have evaded the profession who exhibit high levels of unprofessionalism. It is highly recommended to finish a two years Diploma or a four years Degree course in other to be well equipped as a media person. The various programmes teaches ethics, conducts and practises in which journalists must operate. These ethics include, proper dressing, use of proper language, correct forms of verbal and non verbal communication, writing skills, media law and ethics, and what have you.

No training needed

Journalists around the world are smart and intelligent people who require both soft and hard skills in the exhibition of their roles. Disk jockeying, television and radio presenting, news reporting, editing, script writing, directing and all the other facets of the media require "sharp brains" and a well of training. Those who get the patience to go through proper training are those who succeed in the profession. Not just anyone can handle Journalism, and it does not only take beauty and a nice physique. Proper schooling and training is the key to high standard Journalism.

For the bold and beautiful

A lot of people draw back from pursuing their passion for Journalism because they have been told that they aren't beautiful or handsome enough. Hello! Do not be misled. If you are good at what you do, the print media(newspaper) and radio stations are available and you might not necessarily have to show your face to the world. Photography is also another great option. Personally, I believe everybody is born beautiful and must not be discouraged from achieving greatness. All you need to succeed at the profession is your gift and talent. Be smart, be creative, be curious, love arts, read, write and talk well.

Thanks for taking time to read this. I wrote it just for you. Now you can go out there and prove the world wrong. Let nothing get in your way of being you. I will be excited to know what you think about Journalism and how this peice has been helpful. Have a happy life!

Why We Need To Reconstruct and Apply Maintenance In Our Lives

Welcome to a new you! If you clicked this, you are alive. Not alive because you are breathing or moving but because you want to experience something new. Life is offered as a gift for those who are ready to do new things, I believe. Our greatest achievements are counted as the things we tried and succeeded, not the ones we never attempted.

Every person, like a machine, needs to apply changes in some areas of their lives. For a machine, it requires paying particular attention to lubrication, cleaning and proper maintenance in order to attain efficiency. Humans need change too. We cannot afford to be rigid instead we need flexibility in all aspects of our live. A person who never did anything new never achieved any good thing.

What do you see when you see successful people? They are constantly changing their habits, cars, clothes, associates, and sometimes, to some extent, their body. We have been born with the creative ability to create new things around us. We have the power to wield things into being and all it takes is to use that power to cause constant changes in our lives.

Words

Establish the skill to use your words to construct any good thing that you want to see manifest in your life. This is not a sermon. This is a truth. Whatever you say you are, you become. Change the way you talk about yourself, your family, and your friends. Go for the life-changing words that can catapult you to bigger and better grounds. Try it, it works like magic. I have powerful words posted in the corner of my room which I recite every morning to keep me going. And the results have been tremendous.

Thoughts

As a man thinks, so is he. Yes! Think a millionaire and you are. It's that simple. Start thinking of yourself going places. Visualise the billionaire and great person that you want to become. Think positive about yourself and everyone around you. The universe smiles at you when you think that way. In no time, you will see yourself in the places you imagined. Dream big, God does not work on small things. He is too big for that.

Actions

"Start where you are, Use what you have, Do what you can". This is one  of my favorite quotes. By all means, act, and act right. The sum of all the good things that we do is what brings us fulfillment. Always be on the go and target those things that you want to see done around you that nobody else is doing, and do it. Adjust to new changes and do not let anything take you by surprise. Be ready for all the possible things that can happen on your journey through this puzzle called life. Don't stop when things go wrong. You only need to get it done once. Solve problems and win at all cost. For me, it was learning to prepare the correct jollof rice. I really had a tough time; from preparing watery jollof to burnt ones, and now I'm just perfect. What is your worst failure? Don't stop doing it. Just do it!

Appearance

Dress up and let your opponents know that you are ready for battle. You cannot show up on the battle ground looking like you are going to play tennis. You must look good and be ready for whatever occasion. Look the talk. The way you present yourself is one thing that you must learn, apply, and maintain in the bid to get to the top. Look and smell good all the time. Be in the trend. Follow what  people are wearing for various occasions and Apply in your style. Avoid being the laughing stock at an event. Your appearance says a lot about your personality. I thought you should know this by now. Well... Are you practicing it?

Language

What language are you speaking fluently? I recall some times past when I spoke so much  vernacular with my friends so much that I struggled anytime I decided to speak English. That's how it is with language and speech. Choose to speak the language of the great men. Whichever language it is, make sure it is the one that will transform you into the person you want to be. Never be part of the group of people who speak vulgar and profane words. Other people also speak in a tone that sounds "bush". Maintain a positive image by choosing your words, tenses, grammar and tonation well. Never forget to mind your language.

There will be battles and mountains in the way, but you cannot expect to win if you never try. We are all learning every step of the way. So learn all you can, practise with all zeal, and be sure to win in all you do. Go make history! Share your thoughts about this piece with me, I will be glad to hear from you.
